The following is from my novel Pingora and is a basic glossary of important institutions.
Spirituality and Science
One of the first things noticed by visitors of Genesis is that many of our institutions have been named after gods and goddesses of human societies of the ancient past. Gods and goddesses were created by our ancestors to explain the world around them. They were emotional beings who expressed all that humans experienced and there was a god or goddess to express everything. A means to help answer fundamental questions of existence. Our Neanderthal ancestors some 33,000 years ago looked around them and into the sky with questions like, “Who am I? Why am I here? What is death?” Spiritual pursuit of human kind has evolved over time and continues even today. In Genesis many institutions are also named after terms and words of science. Our founders shrived and we still strive to create a society where science and spirituality are not mutually exclusive. A society where science and spirituality are honored equally. Many of our founders were scientists before Janus Porrima. Many were also spiritual seekers. And many were both. The intrinsic value of life and nature are fundamental frameworks of our society while the empirical evidence of scientific inquiry is never discarded. For our citizens, our society is a symbiotic relationship between Spiritual Intelligence and Scientific Intelligence.
Another thing that stands out in Genesis are the tattoos displayed by most citizens of Genesis. In general many tattoos are worn by members of society to be easily recognized by citizens as a sort of calling card if you will. They tell where one works, special interests and convey other information about a citizen. They also help to easily identify someone who may be able to assist you with finding help or information you may be seeking. Children learn these symbols from a very young age. All Tillers have a Hindu Bindi on their foreheads.
We use the word cells here as a metaphor, as they were not necessarily physically connected. To begin, the honey bee, was chosen as a guiding aspect of nature to form the structures of society and to represent the principles of beauty, necessity, foresight, cooperation and hard work which are seen as fundamental goals and desires of the new world. An image of a golden bee with its wings spread out is seen in spiritual realms of Omni Fidem. In some places an ant can also be seen displayed as a similar symbolic inspirational force. This symbolism is expressed within the spiritual order in emblems, sayings and even prayers. The Bee is made into a wall decorations that appears on the walls of the “cells” of the order and pendents/broaches that are worn by individuals who are instructors in the cells and sometimes given to others for special recognition. The metaphor of cells is used throughout Genesis beyond the use of the spiritual order.
One of the first projects Zygo Terif was the creation of abundant bee hives and bee keepers to replenish the world with their presence, as the environmental catastrophes of the Waterfall devastated their populations. The area where this began is considered a “sacred space” by the secular and religious of our society. One of the early jobs of the Collector Guild was to distribute hives as far as they were able into the world beyond Genesis.
Those who are part of the main “Spiritual Cell” of ZygoTerif, called Omni Fidem, are recognized by their tattoo on their under forearm of a circle with a single dot in it's center, the symbol of the Monad used by ancient Greek Pythagoreans. In general many tattoos are worn by members for society to be easily recognized by citizens as a sort of calling card if you will. All Tillers have a Hindu Bindi on their foreheads. ZygoTerif is structured metaphorically as a honeycomb with its many “cells” joined together with each cell containing specific varieties of the sustaining honey of knowledge. Many in the order choose to wear clothing that is plain of natural fibers and colors, but there is no standard for this with some wearing bright synthetic clothing made in the days before Janus Terif. Omni Fidem of ZygoTerif basically practices Omnism as spiritual doctrine but is based on a mixture of the philosophies of Buddhism, New Age beliefs and practices with Occult Ceremonial, Shamanic and Pagan magic rituals and traditions.
Two institutions directly administered by the spiritual teachers and leaders of Zygo Terif are the “Cell of the Sacred” and the “Hallow”. Much more will be revealed of the workings of these two entities throughout this manuscript for they are of the most importance to the overall tale I am relating. Tillers Zephyr, Griffin, Kether and Beth are were among the guiding council of these cells. And as mentioned before identifying tattoos are displayed as symbols of each cell of the total honeycomb structure of society. Children learn these symbols at a very young age.
After society seemed to be functioning well Zygo Terif was reorganized and became a sort of governing council administered by Tiller Griffin from an office in The Hallow. Many of the other administrative duties where administered by the spiritual order of Omni Fidem adminsitered primarily by Tillers Zephyr and Calypso.
One final note for now. There are very few “taboos” in Genesis. Of the few taboos of society are the ideas of Otherness, Envy and finally the desire of the collection of things and ownership. Teaching ways of understanding and conquering these ideas are at the top of priorities at all levels in Genesis. Like the bee and the ant society is based on cooperation in service to the whole.
The Hallow plays a very important function in society. Governed by shared responsibility of Griffin and his offices of Zygo Terif and the teachers and Chela's of Omni Fidem. Basically Hallow means “to make holy or sacred, to sanctify or consecrate, to venerate”. The Hallow is a place where many of the basic human emotional and social needs are addressed. The Hollow, like Zygo Terif itself, is a combination of a religious order and a government with many services. A place for simple companionship and more intimate companionship, with basic counseling services as well as a place to play games, relax and socialize. Very important functions in our new society. The spiritual needs are more deeply addressed in spiritual cells Omni Fidem.
Most of the teachers and such of the Hallow consists of adult survivors of Water fall, the Tillers and orphan children who miraculously survived having to be found and taken in by the Tillers. In the early years right after Waterfall there were many orphans, as people were either dead or dying still in large numbers. From these first charges many of the beginning basic functions of the Zygo Terif were formed from identifying their needs and many of them were among the first “priests” and “priestesses” of the order Omni Fidem.
Today not all are orphans, although many still are, and at a young age some are linked with with others as a permanent dyad and others with two others in a triads. They work, learn and grow up together. The ones who are dyads have tattoos with two dots joined by a curved line and triads have triangular dots joined by lines, (place on the under side of the wrist where most such identifiers are placed). Groups consisting of a dyad, and a triad plus one (5 people) units are formed for special projects, or long termed ones such as members of the Connector Guild. As with all the tattoo symbols citizens are taught to recognize them. Some are sent to live in the grounds of Zygo Terif by their parents, some children choose for themselves to be there, either for short times or even perhaps for longer periods with some even choosing to join the spiritual segment of the order of Zygo Terif. It is residents of Zygo Terif who choose to work in the Hallow when they are grown and have significantly learned disciplines and such to share with their fellow citizens who are in need of the sort of services found there.
One of the well used cells of the Hallow is reserved for the ingestion of versions of a mind altering substance. These cells are called The Potpourri. One must be approve to enter these cells. Also a significant number of work credits are needed. The substances were developed by scientist before Janus Porrima based on mixtures of traditional ayahuasca used by shamans of the forests in central and south America from ancient times. The cultivation of ayahuasca is done in the city bio-domes. This could be a long tale of it's own but for now this will suffice and more on the bio-domes will come later. There are three of these mixtures with different names. The least potent mix with the largest use among the
people of society is simply called Soma. It is slightly psychedelic but mostly is consumed to relax. A bit more potent is called Ambrosia, named after the “drink of the gods”. Chelas of the order are required to monitor these cells. The most potent of these mixtures is called “Sacred Amrita”. Amrita being an ancient Sanskrit word that literally means "immortality" and is often referred to in texts as nectar. Access to Sacred Amrita can only be found at the temple cells of Zygo Terif and supervised and administered by an elder of the order.
For the most part people come to The Hallow for basic socializing. They share drinks, play games, listen to music and meet new friends, contacts and lovers. A place to relieve stress. A place to learn that all share life aspects and experiences that too often we feel we must endure alone. In our world we stress cooperation and the overall knowledge that no one is alone because since Janus Porrima we are truly as one and the survival of all is incumbent on the knowledge and efforts of every citizen.
The basic definition of Hallow is to make holy or sacred, to sanctify or consecrate, to venerate. Because the Tillers had a belief in concepts of what is called dharma they believed that all activity is dharma. The cosmic law and order that makes life and the universe possible. Concepts of duties, rights, laws, conduct, virtues and right way of living leading to the purification and moral transformation of human beings. But always with the maxim of existential free will as an overriding principle. From what some may consider primal desires to that which is sublime can be explored in the Hallow.
Here are just some of the activities within the cells of the Hallow:
People come to play games. People come to learn spiritual practice.
People come to special rooms to have sexual contact.
People come to take a mild drug to relax in a safe place.
Tillers Zephyr is the administrator of the working of the spiritual cell if Zygo Terif. Omni Fidem is a title blending two Latin words. Omni from omnis meaning “all” and Fidem meaning faith. Essentially meaning “many faiths”. Omni Fidem is not exclusively a form of theology. A belief in god is not a nessisary componant of the order. But a necessary component is to affirm the necessity of one arriving at an understanding of reality based on personal experience, engagement, and inquiry, and an acceptance of the validity and legitimacy of the differing understandings of others. They believe all religions contain varying elements of a common truth, in opposition to dogmatism. Scientific inquiry is also greatly accepted because physics looks for a a single transcendent purpose or cause that unites, and recgnizes an infinite number of possibilities to explain “reality” including ideas of existentialism in which consciousness is a power or force that help determine this reality.
Much of Omni Fidem's spiritual doctrine but is based on a mixture of the philosophies of Buddhism, New Age beliefs and practices with Occult Ceremonial, Shamanic and Pagan magic rituals and traditions. Those deeply involved with Omni Fidem do have a semi-dogmatic system of values or ethics dirived from the social sciences and universal spiritual maxims.
Those who are part of the main Omni Fidem are recognized by their tattoo on the underside of their left wrist which is a circle with a single dot in it's center, the symbol of the Monad used by ancient Greek Pythagoreans. The administrators of Omni Fidem are all Tillers and have the Hindu Bindi on their foreheads.
The Wheel is an area in the middle of the city, surrounded by traders of goods. Also a hub for social interaction. It is approximately five acres in size in a circular layout. The Hallow is close to the Wheel and all goings on there can be seen from the Hallow's windows. Two and three story buildings surround the rest of the outer perimeter. This area once was called “Old Town” and the Tillers carefully dismantled the old buildings that once were there salvaging the architecture for other uses and designed this new city feature. It serves as the main distribution point for food and other necessities for the citizens as well as a centralized communal arena. Just beyond it is the Meadow of Nine Muses. Chips, such as the one Zephyr gave them, are for very special items that are resource and time intensive as as most goods and services in Genesis are free. People earn chips for extra special services they preform beyond standard duties that add to the quality of life in the city. From the Wheel there are walkways that turn into trails that lead into a small urban forest near by where people go to walk and play with friends and family. Also some trails lead to special areas for children to play. One main path goes to the Meadow of the Nine Muses. On one side of the Wheel is a small park with a stage. This is called Agora Nexus. It is an open place where citizens may stand an talk about anything they choose. All manner of ideas are shared here.
Sumer is what we call our “library” and is the main cell that oversees education and knowledge for the citizens of Genesis. Sumer being considered the first urban civilization in the historical region of southern Mesopotamia. The Sumerians are believe to have invented the first writing system and perhaps the first library. Knowledge of all forms and freely dispensing of it is considered one of the main and most important functions of Zygo Terif and the citizens of Genesis. We feel open access to all knowledge essential for a healthy community. Sumer is where most books, maps and other files are kept. Beyond Sumer every cell of Genesis has a “Sacred Text” library containing books and files directly related to that cell in rooms set aside for their study. The many cells of Sumer can be explored all hours of the day by any citizen or visitor. The librarians are called Naude, named after Gabriel Naude who published the first printed monograph on librarianship in the 1600's. Their identifying tattoo is spiral within a circle. The spiral has a blue dot at each end representing the journey from questioning to the center where truth resides. One of the early tasks of the Collector Guild was to secure books and such and bring them to Genesis. In these times we traded and loan Sumer's content with other societies we have made contact with. Printing of books and other items are done here also. In alignment with out fundamental philosophy of not collecting and using non-renewable ressources our inks are plant based for the most part and paper made with hemp. The symbol and the tattoo of the librarians and the library is the Egyptian Eye of Horus. I proudly administer Sumer.
The Connector Guild
The Connector Guild is one of our first institutions. They were charge with exploring and making contact with other survivors of Janus Porrima. Their identifying tattoo, located on the underside of their forearms, is an octopus within the standard circle because they traveled in a groups of eight in their early years. The members are known as the Witnesses. The Connector Guild worked in teams to move and set up portable solar and wind generators in a search grid to power short wave radios to scan for other groups of survivors. Four would stay at a camp while the others would fan out in different directions to explore.
One of their first finds were wild, yet tame, horse and capturing them and forming stables and maintaining pastures for them in Genesis. Rotating the care of their horses and newborns is done during their rest periods from their missions. The use of animals for labor is a much debated exercise but the Guild are the few allowed to do this. Mostly they were used for simple riding but pulling of carts and such are also done at times. They still maintain pastures and stables for their horses as well as land devoted to growing hay and grains to supplement their diets. There is a few horse pulled carts and a few riding carriages in the city these days.
In the early days the Guild would find groups where disease was still killing the residents and decided to log their locations but to avoid contact for now and promising to check on them every six months. After around forty years their mission was reorganized because our outreach functions became less needed, as other groups of survivors also found us in much the same manner. But seventy years from their beginnings we felt the desire to reach out once again to those societies who evolved in a much different way than ours. In the early years many of these groups were discovered by the Connectors Guild and it was decided contact would be restricted and over the years they were simply observed. Now a new reorganization of the Collector Guild is in progress because the Tillers have chosen to reach out to these once avoided groups. Also our communication equipment has evolved to be capable to reach further than ever before. We have even reach some survivors on other continents.
Under the administration of the Collectors there is a collection of other functions. The teaching of different languages is taught in what is called the Hall of Vac. Vac was the is the Hindu goddess of speech. This function is also shared with Sumer. Another duty of the Guild is to teach children basic life skills and the basics of the relationship between individuals, families, and communities. Also instruction on such things as preparing and obtaining food, nutrition and health, sewing, and basic hygiene. They are introduced to the city of Genesis and some of it's functions and cells.
In what is called Ground Zero, all who wish to become part of and work with the Guild attend classes that teach survival skills of all kinds. This is for the use of the Witnesses who find themselves often in places where all they have is what they can carry in their packs. Also Ground Zero is open to all citizens, not mandatory, if they desire to learn these skill in case the unthinkable were to happen and the world found itself once again in a chaotic state as in Waterfall. Also within the cells of Ground Zero they teach various forms of martial arts. In the beginning it was considered a possible necessary evil to know self defense. Over the years though, in deference of our teachings and belief in non-violence, the focus of these teachings are the spiritual forms of this such as Ti Che for example used to improve mental health and physical balance combined with meditation practices. In the Hallow there are more cells devoted to this as well teaching yoga for much the same purposes. Meditation and yoga practices are highly encourage for all citizens and most practice some form of them. But if you wish to learn self defense Ground Zero is still the place for that.
Another important function of the early days for the Collectors Guild was to bury the dead when it was determined safe to do so. Because of this they were sometimes referred to as Sexton, that being another name for burial beetles who bury carcasses to lay their eggs in as a food source for their larva. Some spiritual minded among them said prayers at these burials. Any personal items found with them were buried with them and if it was determined in some way that family or mates were among the dead they were buried together near each other. In later years when the Guild believed it to be safe they turned to the practice of cremation in many cases.
There is a little ditty that school children say. No one knows who wrote it. It is believed it came about when some of our first children began to learn the history of Genesis some thirty years ago. Also combined with the teaching of physics that says basically matter and energy can not be destroyed only change in form. The ditty goes like this:
Waterfall is gone now, but the Saxtons see.
“We Bury The Dead”
“We Burn The Dead”
Life from dust and ashes grows.
“Life Without End”
“Nothing Is Lost'”

Cell of Mors
Mors is the Roman goddess and personification of death, equivalent to the Greek Thánatos. The Cell of Mors is a very important institution of our society and especially important to the spiritual order of Zygo Terif, Omni Fidem. It is secular as well as spiritual. Tiller Calypso oversees the Cell of Mors. She has a special tattoo which instead of just a standard circle with a golden bee of the Omni Fidem, the outer circle is an ouroboros, the ancient symbol depicting a serpent eating its own tail. It's symbolism is vast consisting of introspection, the eternal return, re-creating and the infinite cycle of nature's endless creation and destruction, life, death, joy and despair. We believe that the age of sixteen a citizen is old enough the say what they would like to do with their bodies if they die. This initial choice can be changed at any time they wish. In the Cell of Mors citizens study all things that are related to death from mythology to science. Rituals for death events and counseling for those who have someone close die or have fears of dying themselves are offered there. In Genesis suicide is not considered a wrong choice the make. This was debated by the Tillers extensively. If a citizen chooses to commit suicide they can chose various burial methods or choose to donate their bodies to Tiller Griffin for research or Hippocratic Hall where medicine is taught. These choices are registered by citizens at the Cell of Mors by those who work there.
Meadow of Nine Muses
Meadow of Nine Muses is the area on the edge of Genesis where the dead were buried when the Tillers first emerged into the new world, basically our elementary. The term Nine Muses was adopted from the Greek mythology as sources of knowledge and inspiration in poetry and song. It is also an urban forest where after people have chosen to be cremated their ashes are planted with a tree to add to its evolution. Trees are considered sacred in Genesis. Cremation is the standard method of dealing with a body after death but there are different ways and reasons this is done. Some choose to have their body buried as is and also are buried with a tree. Some choose to have their bodies added to the biomass of the Midden Bio-Domes and the Manna Bio-Spheres to help in the generation of energy or to be added to the composts for growing purposes. The workings Midden and Manna are at the heart of Genesis's survival and their history and function even in their basic form is extensive.
Near the Meadow of Nine Muses is the Field of Gilgamesh, so named because the mythological character Gilgamesh was on a quest for immortality. It is an open park for people and children to play in. Outdoor sporting events happen here from time to time.
When citizens turn forty they are given the option to undergo the processes involved with the life extending Elixir or to live their life in the natural way of our ancestors. Those who choose to live the natural way have formed an association called Memento Mori, the Latin term for “Remember You Have To Die”. And their motto, also a Latin term, Carpe Diem meaning “Seize The Day.” They have a cell in the Hallow but most live in a special community outside the city and live in a way much like the Amish and Mennonites communities of our ancestors did. They are people who are known for simple living, plain dress, and a reluctance to adopt many conveniences considered modern technology, although they are not as strict about this as in the past. They also do not however share the religious convictions of those earlier societies. If their spirituality were to be generalized you would most likely say they were paganistic in their approach, but there is no unified belief system. They call their village Shangri-La after the fictional city novel Lost Horizon, a mystical harmonious place for them to live and die.
A Few More Important Cells
Mythos Hall is where people go in Sumar to read and study the many myths and the societies that created them during Prima-Okea. As I have mentioned before these myths are the source of the names of most of the cells of the Zygo Terif and of the Hallow because of their rich symbolism. Firsc-Lith (Fersc meaning unsalted and Lith meaning a segment of something like from an orange) is where post Janus Porrima books are collected seperatly.
Temple of Themis
Temple of Themis, Themis being the Greek goddess of natural order, morality, fairness, balanced and judgment working for societal peace. So this is the school where law is taught, with it's sub-cells of philosophy and sociology and more. Concordia Hall metaphor for an ideal of social concord or entente in the political discourse of the Republican era. She was thus often associated with Pax ("Peace") in representing a stable society. Our simple court system is called Forseti-Aesir (Old Norse "the presiding one," actually "president".) is an Aesir god of justice and reconciliation in Norse mythology. Tiller Griffin precides over the court and also as administrator of the daily workings of the city.
Natura's Nook, Natura being the Greek goddess of the forest, is the main center for nature studies and ecology and all it's many sub-cells. Very significant here is the Order of the Blue Dot. This is a scientific, religious and historical movement. They administer a wall which has a non-stop solar powered video playing of images of the earth before Janus Porrima. Revolving images of natural landscapes, living creatures and humans living their lives in all its aspects. They stand vigil to explain these images and are recognized by an inch and a half diameter dark blue dot tattoo on their neck just below their right ear.
Order of the Blue Dot
The Order of the Blue Dot is a scientific, religious and historical movement. They administer a wall which has a non-stop solar powered video playing of images of the Earth before Waterfall. Revolving images of natural landscapes, living creatures and humans living their lives in all its aspects. Students stand on hand to explain these images and are recognized by a inch and a half diameter blue dot on their neck just below their chin. They do their work in what is called Ethos Hall. Ethos is a Greek word meaning "character" that is used to describe the guiding beliefs or ideals that characterize a community, nation, or ideology.
Fortunately there is little mental illness in Genesis. But time to time citizens have emotional distress caused by occurrences in their lives. They come to Maniae Hall to talk and reach balance. Maniae Hall is administered by Tiller Eva. It is so named after the Maniae in Greek mythology believed to be a spirit or group of spirits personifying insanity, madness, and crazed frenzy. All effort is done to make life a happy one for our citizens but all the basic emotions are still in play. Sometimes Tiller Eva works in tandem with Tiller Zephyr and the Omni Fidem.
Maya-Moh is a cell directly administered by Tiller Griffin's close friend and confidant Rolo. Maya being the belief that the universe as we experiance it is an illusion. Moh generally means love of and attachment to worldly things and relations. In Sikh Scripture, the term indicates the infatuation for or clinging to the illusory world of the senses and as illusion of worldly love and attachment. Buddists also teach this concept. The moral and ethical philosophies of Geneisis are tught there. But in teaching these things it is always stressed that citizens are always free to choose to addopt them or not because spiritual and social dogma is another of the few tabbos of Genesis. The teachings are spiritual and secular in their approuch.
In the days before Janus Porrima the world's population had come to rely on it's technology at a remarkable rate. Most agree that this co-existence with the robots led directly to what was to come. Many surmised that the robots had become a species unto themselves and were our companions and friends. They had taken upon themselves the many duties of labor in societies and that led to civil unrest as so many were having difficult times finding meaningful work in order to take proper care of themselves and their families. While some thought the established governments were responsible to aid these citizens almost as many did not. But not to be diverted from my tale suffice it to say, I believe they were right. It was not a conscious attack as some feared may come with the advancement of the robots but just the mere fact that they were so emerged in all segments of society carrying out the will of their programmers, some who were malicious or ignorant.
Among small entities such as computers and cell phones and almost just as common, were the more advanced robots. There are numerous examples of these entities, small and large, but for now I will tell you about a few. The most numerous were what we call Gendarme, and called Genny, or Gen for short. It being a word meaning “armed men”. In those days much terminology centered around words of war, for indeed the world seemed at war in so many ways. One noted scholar of the day famously had said, “War is the force that gives us meaning.” And for the most part the “arms” Gennies carried were the tools and knowledge to perform their functions by following powerful subroutines that were programmed and reprogrammed as needed. The robots kept things functioning and running smoothly, running machines that manufactured goods and also in time became domestic servants for those who couls afford them. And of course the were utilized to assist the police of the day to quell the civil unrest as well to enhance war battlefields.
Now the next higher functioning robots were called Dragoon. Taken from the word for title of the common foot soldiers of armies past. As I have stated elsewhere if not for the Gendarme and the Dragoon human kind may have just been an specter in the Aether.
Because they survived the ravages of Janus Porrima they continued with many of the subroutines they possessed and kept many of the systems of the world functioning. They possessed long life as they were trained in self repair and repair of their fellow robots. But wisely they were not able to reprogram one-another. In those days science had a breakthrough of such importance that it altered the trajectory of much of the world. Scientists of Prima-Okea developed batteries that powered the robots that were made via the processing of bio-mass of many kinds into internal energy from seemingly endless supplies of organic matter from living organisms to garbage produce by we humans. These biodomes are called Sapro Diptera and Phagidae where everything is sorted, recycled and proceeded. Some did this internally while others went to specified complexes dedicated to producing power for the robots and other things. All robots had the means to “plug-in” in the early days to theses stations to rejuvenate their systems. Slowly since the development of re purposing nuclear waste to create the diamond batteries the Dragoon are being upgraded. Other Tillers could tell you in more detail than I about how these processes function but I am a historian and not an engineer.
As we emerged from safe places in time we found many robots still working on their tasks while many stood idle awaiting human direction to fulfill their programming or to be reprogrammed. Most everything, as I have said before, had Gennies but still most systems, work plants and such, were still controlled by humans for the most part in many of their functions. So when we emerged it was into a fractured and semi-functioning new world we were tasked to reprogram them. In time after the shock had subsided some, we began the task to recreate a livable world. And Gendarme and Dragoon were an integral part of this re-creation. Thus, beyond our selfless and tireless helpers, the robots had truly became our friends. Soon this occurrence was to evolve into a new dimensions with the unforeseen assistance of Kether, Griffin, ZieKir Kizlar and Sadie. Speaking of Griffin I will briefly mention the few and rarest of robots, the Androids. Androids are powered by the diamond battery technology which researchers called the “Diamond Age” and they believe this battery durable enough to outlast human civilization. Androids are among Griffins personal passions. Is there an universal source watching us unfold? Do robots have a destiny? As my tale unfolds perhaps you will have an answer for these esoteric questions, for now I do not.
Midden and Manna
Facilities are locate sixteen miles south west of Genesis in what was once known as Laurel.
Midden is the main cell of Genesis that oversees our bio-domes, cells dedicated to the recycling of all forms of waste, turning it into bio-mass power stations and the biospheres cells that grow our food. Those who work in Midden are called the Zabbaleen, a word which literally means "garbage people" in Egyptian Arabic. The Zabbaleen were citizens of the Wahiya, which means people of the oasis. Around the 1910 of Prima-Okea these people migrated from the western desert of Egypt, settled in Cairo and began collecting and recycling its waste. They were Copts, and being Christians their lives were difficult living within a primarily Muslim nation. The Tillers thought them to be very noble and chose Zabbaleen for the bio-sphere worker's identifier. Midden is a Scandinavian word for an old dump for domestic waste and is used by archaeologists to describe any kind of feature containing waste products relating to day-to-day human life.
The Dragoon are responsible for the first step in the process of collecting the waste by using receptacles for it and then taking them to the bio-domes. Citizens too are taught at an early age to use these receptacles when needed. For example they are scatter all around The Wheel. The waste-to-energy production from the processing of bio-mass is an essential task for society because it is from the bio-domes the energy technologies that run some electricity, vehicles, electrical generators and devices comes. Some Dragoon contain within themselves the mechanisms that produce this bio-mass energy independently with no human assistance but most still need to come here to recharge themselves. When need be the Dragoon can exchange this energy between each other. This is where all collected items found are brought and sorted for reuse. All metals, electronics and plastics to name a few items. Extraction of natural resources is aggressively discouraged unless it is without question sustainable and causes no stress to the natural environment. In the beginning this energy was recovered through combustion but over the years we have developed other methods that eliminate the gases that the combustion process produced.
There are two special facilities at Midden. One is administered directly by Griffin called The Diamond Center where he continues to work on technologies that began in the latter days of Prima-Okea when scientists started creating artificial diamonds from certain types of nuclear waste producing batteries that would last tens of thousands of years. This technology, like most of the time, experienced an unprecedented exponential growth. Griffin was involved with many of theses technologies and continuing this work is his personal passion. He modified his personal android ZieKir Kizlar with this diamond battery technology and sees it as a vital part of the future of society's energy needs. The Diamond Center is also where other work on robotics and longevity studies occur.
The second special area is called the Phoenix Center. In the beginning of the formation of this facility there was many moral and ethical discussion among the Tillers on its creation. In the end though it was given the go ahead. A brief description will reveal the controversy easily. As a choice made by citizens they may choose to come to the Phoenix Center rather then go to Ixchel's Womb to deal with end of life issues. They come to the center where they donate their bodies to be used as bio-mass as a gift to their fellow citizens rather then be buried in the Meadow of Nine Muses. In some cases citizens choose to go here as a means of conscious suicide. This is where the controversy manifested. For forty-four years since the first gatherings of the Tillers this issue had not come up.
It was Tiller Beth, Tiller Kether's wife, who brought it to the forefront. Even though she had partaken in the life extending technologies which most the Tillers had done, for unknown reasons her lifespan was not as long and she started exhibiting bodily decline. Not wishing to go through all the pain expected to accompany her particular death she decided she would rather choose suicide in the machines of Phoenix Center. With the assistance of Tillers Zephyr and Calypso the details of this option was worked out. It became an operation principle that suicide was not demonized as it was by most of Prima-Okea but respected as a personal choice. The day that Tiller Beth came to Phoenix Center was a very significant day of ritual and all eyes of Genesis were there in spirit if not physically. This day was a turning point in Tiller Kether's life that changed its trajectory for the next twenty-five years. In closing here, as I have said on many occasions in regard to other cells of Zygo Terif, I only have a minimal understanding of the workings of Midden. This may be the perfect time to tell about our wonderful bio-spheres.
Located in and around what was known as Lockwood five miles north east of the city.
The need for food is one of the first priorities worked on by the Tillers. The study of operating principles of creating artificial ecosystems was decided a necessity to compliment the knowledge of traditional farming methods. In the beginnings one of the duties of the Collector Guild was to find and secure items of sustenance from canned goods to bulk raw items that had survived Janus Porrima, and seeds of any kind. As we worked on the creation of the new farms and the bio-spheres this is what helped us to survive. Farming was instigated right away. The methods had to be adjusted to the new climate of post Janus Porrima but the farmers learned it well in just a few years. But it was twelve years before the first bio-sphere was finished and operating properly. Now we have three devoted to growing food and three dedicated to micro-ecosystems of flowers, trees and more. Theses studies and facilities have evolved very well to fulfill the food needs of Genesis. Raising of insects as food is one biosphere in itself. As not to let the population of these creatures get out of control and effecting the outer natural environment it is very closely monitored and excess populations were taken to Midden and used as bio-mass. There is separate cells for producing compost from some of the bio-mass of Midden to be used in the farms and bio-spheres of Manna.
Manna, is an edible substance that, according to the Bible and the Quran, God provided for the Israelites during their travels in the desert. The Tillers thought this was the perfect name for the administration of the bio-spheres. Within the Connector Guild is Phronesis Conservatory where all forms of practical knowledge is taught to all citizens and we may choose to learn all about farming and the workings of the bio-spheres there. A most honorable trade to be associated with. Workers within Manna are recognized by the citizens by their tattoos of a circle with the word Muladhara above a lotus with four petals colored red. . The word Muladhara is two Sanskrit words: Mula meaning “root” and Adhara, which means “support” or “base” taken for the name of the first chakra according to Hindu philosophy. Respectfully citizens call the workers of Manna “Mula” when addressing them. The administrator of Manna is named Mula Honeydew, a name he chose to represent the mythology that says that manna appeared in the morning with the dew. Mula Honeydew is also a Tiller.
Another important function of the bio-spheres is the growing of entheogens which are used for medical purposes and consciousness studies. The study of religion and the use and study of entheogens is administered by the spiritual order AO-NE of Zygo Terif except for the case of medical use which is in the purview of Hippocratic Hall. In the early days Tiller Kether administered this cell. He and I organized Mythos Hall as a satellite area within Sumer for further studyof religion and the use of entheogens in religious mythology.

It was determined by the Tillers that the society would embrace radical environmentalism as an operating principle. They saw that the world was still filled with all the things created by the ancestors. All the plastics, electronics, clothing and all manor of tools and devices. They formed a guild to collect, examine, sort, catalog, repair, upcycle and distribute everything they could. A guild of scholarly scavengers. We called the main cell of these recycling centers Sapro Diptera and it's sister guild the Phagidae. Saprro meaning relating to dead or decaying material. Diptera basically meaning flies. Phagidae meaning the processing of dead or decayed organic matter as food. Phagidae are the facilities where Gendarme and the Dragoon are “fed” and/or recharged. Their facilities are also called Cornucopia. As you have most likely guessed the symbol of the guild and in the circle of their tattooed wrist is the flesh fly, identified by it's round uniformed circular spots on its lower body. The people who worked in the Sapro Diptara and it's cells are called the Zabbaleen which is a word which literally means "garbage people" in Egyptian. The workers affectionately call themselves Maggot or Larva.
The extraction policies of the ancestors are considered taboo and discouraged for the most part except in very special circumstance. Basics of the Economy Of Genesis
The Tillers spent many months working on how they wished the comers of Genesis to work. Because of the complexities of this work it still goes on to this day. In the beginning it was swiftly agreed that we wished for a post-scarcity lifestyle for our citizens. How to accomplish this was debated and Tillers with knowledge of such things were chosen to lead these discussions. Just as swiftly it was determined that because the Dragoon were still functioning and the models of a post-scarcity economy have been based largely on the exponential growth of robotics during the later years of Prima-Okea that Griffin and other futurist scientists should be intimately involved with this transition.
Because post-scarcity economics was pretty much a theory in Prima-Okea many of the visions of how it would work were expressed in science fiction of the day. A great model of this that all the Tillers were aware of was what was termed Trekonomics. This was based on a popular television Star Trek which seemed to explore the issues of a new world view of society and economy. One of its characters Jean-Luc Picard. Said in one of his episodes, “The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force of our lives. We work to better ourselves and the rest of humanity.” This statement could easily be seen as a mantra for the work of creating a social-economy because of a need for new solutions for issues (social, economic or environmental) to satisfy needs of our citizens. Tillers studied the issue from the writings of Karl Marx to Ben Goertzel. Also the Tillers read science fiction novels that explored these theories. The developed solutions to achieve not-for-profit aims creating a strong, sustainable, prosperous and inclusive society. A society not driven by every individual seeking only to benefit themselves, a common understanding exists that enables everyone to benefit everyone, including themselves, based on on cooperation and compassion. Yes a huge task indeed. Plutus-Tyche Council administers this well for the most part. Plutus-Tyche is derived from Plutus who was a blind Greek god, blinded by Zeus, so that he would be able to dispense his gifts without prejudice. Tyche was a the goddess who controlled the fortune of cities and Plutus gave her the gift of prosperity and peace to bestow as she chose.
